FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
General
What are the differences between the systems?
The primary difference between the Classic and Low-profile edition systems are the chrome speaker housings. The Classic edition uses a 4.75" diameter by 3" depth housing that is an exact match to the Harley® style spotlight housings. The Low-profile edition uses a 4.75" diameter by 2" depth housing for a lower-profile, streamlined look. Due to a deeper housing, the classic edition does offer a fuller sound, however the low-profile edition offers more versatile mounting options. All other components and manufacturing processes are identical. Please see our gallery for pictures of both system.
Are the speakers waterproof?
The UNiQ Cycle Sounds Classic and Low-profile edition speakers are waterproof. They can be completely submerged in water with no issues to sound quality or performance. This said, you will have no issues with inclement weather while using your system.
How loud is the speaker system?
The classic and low-profile speaker systems are designed for high volume and clarity even at highway speeds. We have tested and designed our systems to be heard even with straight pipes and no windshield at highway speeds and we back this with our no questions asked 30-day money back guarantee. Still not convinced? Check out our customer testimonials for what some of our valued customers have to say about the UNiQ Cycle Sounds speaker systems.
Does the system work with satellite, iPods, etc?
The UNiQ Cycle Sounds speaker systems work with any personal audio device featuring a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Some examples include iPods, MP3 Players, Walkman, portable CD players, Sirius and XM satellite radio units, cell phones and many more.
How much wiring is included with the systems?
Each system includes 6 feet of speaker wire for easy
routing from speakers to the amplifier. There is then another 6 feet wire included to run from the amplifier to your personal audio device.
Will your speakers work with my motorcycle?
The UNiQ Cycle Sounds Classic and Low-profile edition speaker systems are designed for universal fit on almost all motorcycle makes and models. All that is required is 4.75" diameter by 3" depth (on the Classic edition) or 2" depth (on the Low-profile edition) and a 7/8" to 1-1/2" size bar to mount the speakers to. The tiny amplifier with it's small size of only 1.5" x 2.5" x 4" can be mounted just about anywhere. It is cool running, even with little to no airflow so most people install the amplifier under the seat, in a side tool compartment, fork bag, windshield bag, saddlebag, etc.
How do I know what size clamps I will need?
Most standard handlebar sizes are 1" diameter requiring a 1" clamp size. If you have aftermarket handlebars or want to confirm the size of your bar and do not have a dial caliper at your disposal, there is a quick and easy way to determine the handlebar size. You'll need an adjustable crescent wrench and a ruler. Place the wrench over the handlebar and adjust it to the size of the bar. Now measure the space and this will determine the size of the bar. If this process does not work you can also determine the size using a piece of heavy paper or cardboard, a ruler, a pencil, and a scissors. Use the pencil and ruler to make two marks on the edge of the paper 1" apart. Take the scissors and cut lines perpendicular to the edge of the paper at the marks you just made. Fold the resulting flap of paper out of the way. Next, take the piece of paper to the bike and check to see if the tubing will slip into the opening you've made in the edge of the paper. If the opening is too small or too big, repeat the procedure changing the opening to 7/8", 1-1/8", 1-1/4", and 1-1/2" until you find one that will fit.
How cool does the amplifier run?
The 150 watt mini amplifier is designed and built to run cool even in enclosed areas. The amplifier uses an outer shell as a built in heat sink. This shell may get warm to the touch as it is designed to pull all of the heat away from the core to keep internal components cool. With this design the amplifier can be mounted in an enclosed area with little to no air flow.
Why is the amplifier external?
Most motorcycle speakers use a 52 watt (or less) internal amplifier that delivers only 26 watts of peak power to each speaker and can overheat and burn out easily. The UNiQ Cycle speaker system utilizes an external, cool running mini 150 watt amplifier that delivers a whopping 75 watts of power to each perfectly matched speaker! This tiny, easy-mount amplifier (2.5"W x 1.5" H x 4" L) is external as there are no other amplifiers small enough to fit inside the speaker housing that will produce this much power. The perfect fusion of this powerful amplifier and high fidelity, high output speakers produces a loud, crisp sound that can even be heard with straight pipes at 75+ mph!
Where can I mount the amplifier?
The amplifier is designed to run cool and can be mounted in most areas. Some recommended areas include under the seat, in a side compartment, fork bag, windshield bag, saddlebag, etc. Just about any area that is not in direct contact with the elements or engine will work.
Is the amplifier waterproof?
The amplifier is not waterproof. However, it is weather resistant and can be exposed to moisture or small amounts of water. It is designed to run cool and to be a hidden component of the system and is recommended to be mounted out of direct exposure to the elements. Recommended mounting areas include under the seat, in a side tool compartment, fork bag, windshield bag, saddlebag, etc.
How do I hook up the amplifier?
The amplifier installation is very straight forward and does not require any electrical experience. Just take the black (ground) wire and run it to the negative (-) battery terminal. Take the Red (positive) wire and connect it to positive (+) battery terminal. Take the Orange remote wire and connect it to a switched 12v power source (such as the headlight or taillight wire or a toggle switch). We generally prefer to use a dash/speedo light circuit. Please consult your service manual if you're concerned or unsure of loading. If you ride a Harley, you can actually buy several different accessory wiring rigs and wire the system directly to work from the handlebar accessory switch on the triple tree.
What should I do if I have a technical problem?
The UNiQ Cycle Sounds speaker system is a self-install kit and requires about an hour and a half to complete installation. Both systems include complete step-by=step instructions and diagrams. If you do run in to any questions, concerns or issues, we are pleased to offer troubleshooting and installation support via email.
