Can I have a discount?
Just by shopping with us you already are getting a discount. Many of our manufacturers insist we don't discount their products below a certain point. In order to keep selling these products, we can't violate these policies. Products we sell that have bulk purchase discounts are shown with the discount right on the site.
How can I contact you?
Click on the Contact Us button in the main menu
I'm not sure of my size. What should I do?
Ask us! Many times we have sizing information that's provided by the manufacturer but simply isn't pretty enough to put on the website.
Where's my gear? I ordered it like 25 minutes ago!
Patience, grasshopper. As we state on the site, your gear may not come as fast as our bigger, pricier competitors. If you can't wait a few more days, maybe we're not for you.
Will this product fit my bike?
Contact both the maker of the bike and the maker of the accessory. We're not responsible for fitment issues.
Do you accept purchase orders?
HSgear accepts PO's from governmental agencies and corporations at our discretion.
Will this product work with my mission?
We don't know your mission nearly as well as you do. Our staff are all in the business, and we'll surely try to help you as best we can in selecting gear that meets your needs.
Are you registered as a military vendor?
Most certainly. We're in the CCR under CAGE Code 3DL07 and routinely do business with the miiltary on contract and COTS transactions.
The UPS tracking number doesn't work.
Your tracking number probably doesn't work because the shipping system hasn't caught up with the tracking systems at UPS. This is common. The delay happens when our driver comes in and picks up your packages, but the UPS system hasn't updated itself from the driver's scanner. Typically it'll update by 9:00 PM.
I've never heard of you guys. Who are you?
HS Gear is a division of HSG, Inc. HSG is owned and operated by firefighters, guardsmen, cops, and soldiers from the Washington DC metro area. The HS Gear program was originally designed so that our boss, Mike Silverman, could get us great gear at a price much better than local surplus outfitters and malls. However, we were buying and using so much gear that people started asking where we got it, and Mike decided to open HSGear.biz You can read more about it in the "about us" section on the site.
I'm looking for something I don't see on your site. Can you special order it for me?
Just ask. We can typically find something for you through our special order providers. If there's something you want but can't find, let us know and we'll try and hunt it down for you. Unlike the big stores, we not only know about the gear we sell, we know what's out there also.
How come I don't see some common brands on your site?
Several reasons. If we can't get you a good deal on an item, we simply won't bother carrying it. Seriously - how many sources of $19 Mag-Lites does the world really need? Some of the stuff you see on the big name sites simply isn't very good gear. We use this stuff ourselves, so we try to make sure the gear we carry is described accurately, works properly, and is of a quality that we'd rely on ourselves.
Whaddya mean it's not in stock???!!!!
Simple - there's too much stuff. Take a holster for example. There may be two or three colors, left and right hand versions, and anywhere from ten to fifty weapons. Multiply that by 150-200 different holsters, and you can start to see the problem. We have access to roughly 500,000 different items from about 90 manufacturers. There is no single warehouse that could hold it all. We keep the things we sell every day in stock, but most items do have to be ordered.
Why can't I return this stuff?
Because returns of non-defective merchandise cost a great deal of money and that prevents us from getting you the best prices. Once you order an item, we have to buy it from the manufacturer. Most manufacturers don't take items back once you've bought them without charging a lofty fee. Boxes, tape, packing materials, inbound shipping from our vendors, staff time, and credit card processing fees are incurred on both the sale AND the return - it gets pretty out of hand. We adopted the policy to save you money. If you aren't sure of what you're buying from us, ASK! We'll happily provide you with the information you seek. Most of the stuff we sell is the same stuff we've personally used, so we know it's great gear!
Why do I have to pay a restocking fee?
Simple. Once you place your order with us, we buy the items from the manufacturers for you. Our systems are frequently setup to directly place the orders with our suppliers after two hours in our order que. Because we've incurred an expense, we have to charge it to you. If you're not sure, please ask us before you place the order! We don't like charging folks anymore than you like getting charged.
What's the difference between GI and GI Style?
GI means it was made under government contract, sold to the feds, and then cleared out of a federal warehouse as surplus. Our vendors buy surplus in huge lots, which makes the supply and condition of the items inconsistent. GI Style is a product manufactured to military specs, but not made under military contract. GI style gear is usually about 98% identical to GI stuff, but sometimes they'll modify the design a little in response to customer requests or to make the manufacturing easier. It also typically costs a good deal less. GI style gear and GI gear are both the best quality you can get - but GI style stuff is always available, whereas GI is not.
Why don't you export?
We used to. Our credit card processors requested we stop because of the sheer amount of fraud involved. Roughly 75% of all overseas cards from eastern Europe were coming back as stolen. It was nearly 100% from Nigeria, Indonesia, and Singapore. Frankly, we were tired of getting ripped off.
